Lucha Report for 1/31 (final for Hooligans)

Posted by invizweb on January 31, 2009

Reporter’s Note: As the run for Combat Hooligans has ended now I would like to thank Rich Tate, and for this article, and the many like it before, Kris Zellner. As “Dr. Lucha” Steve Sims has stated before, Kris is one of the premiere sources for lucha news in the English speaking language. His due diligence updates us Pro Wrestling fans with news and results daily. For that, I would concur Kris is one of the best wrestling journalists out there and “Hijo de Doctor Lucha.”

NEWS

Hijo del Santo responded yesterday to some rumors that he would be working for AAA soon saying that even with the differences he has with Paco Alonso, he would always prefer working for them than AAA. Santo did say though that he highly doubts he would be returning to Arena Mexico anytime soon due to his problems with Paco and it’s a shame for the great fans that he would put his love of money over the wrestlers he employs.

Lucha Report for 12/8

Thanks again to Kris Z.

NEWS

Perro Aguayo Jr. said today that the first Perros del Mal show yesterday in Mexico City had some trying moments but in the end it surpassed all of his expectations because of the great fans and the wrestlers who gave a tremendous effort to please them. Perrito said that he hasn’t been part of a show where the matches had electricity like it had in many years and that he was very proud of that fact because if the fans left the show happy then their goals as a promotion was accomplished. Perrito said that the lower prices and great talent overcame what failures they had and that they would improve their show quality even more with each passing show. Perrito said that Dos Caras Jr. was supposed to be on the show but he pulled himself off due to the issues with PdM & EMLL and there were other surprises that didn’t pan out (Rob Van Dam) so he apologized to any fans who expected anything that they didn’t deliver.

Cibernetico told Box y Lucha in their latest issue that he felt like he handled his departure from AAA in a very professional fashion and that if he had made a bigger deal out of it by calling a press conference it would’ve turned into a media circus which he didn’t want. Ciber said that leaving AAA hurt him tremendously because that was his home and he didn’t want to do it but the cancer in that locker room forced his hand. Ciber said that he could’ve taken the AAA Mega Heavyweight Title with him or threw it in the trash can but that would be disrespect to the sport which he would never do. Ciber said that he left with his dignity and wouldn’t let Konnan take it from him so he gives much respect and gratitude to the true people in charge of AAA and wishes them luck in the future. Ciber again was asked about working for EMLL and said that he was offered some dates but just wouldn’t feel right working there because he isn’t from their promotion originally and that he has always been either an independent or affiliated with AAA. Ciber then admitted that he had a bad experience with EMLL over 10 years ago where he was actually training there for 4 months but something happened that he wouldn’t forget thus forming his opinion of their promotion. Ciber said that he loves being an independent now because he can work where he wants plus working for Perros del Mal is very beneficial for his career right now because he can share a ring with Dr. Wagner Jr. which he has wanted to do for years. Ciber also said that he doesn’t rule out working for AULL or IWRG and would speak to their promoters if they meet his demands and if his schedule was free.

Dr. Wagner Jr. said today that EMLL can’t veto him from Arena Mexico and that taking him off of those shows would cost them many fans making it a heavy price to pay for their decision. Doc said that he doesn’t have to follow anyone’s rules but his and that he would think about taking legal action against EMLL but hopes that would be a last resort. Wagner then talked about the PdM show yesterday and said that Perrito & Cibernetico will pay for their act of jealousy and treason so he would pay them back soon. Read the rest of this entry »

Lucha Report for 12/4

Posted by invizweb on December 5, 2008

Thanks to Kris Zellner

NEWS

Los Perros del Mal held a press conference announcing their first show on Sunday at Sala de Armas de Magdalena Mixhuca in Mexico City which will be going head-to-head with a big EMLL show at Arena Mexico and it was officially announced that Olimpico, Rayman, Esther y Rossy Moreno, Martha Villalobos, & Ayako Hamada would be joining the promotion. Perro Aguayo Jr. said that he thinks that the first show will be a success and that he wants it to be fan friendly hence the lower ticket prices to show that they are open to doing what they have to do to ensure their fans would be happy. Perrito said that the top talent on the independent scene like Dr. Wagner Jr., Cibernetico, L.A. Par-K, & Intocable would be working the PdM shows because they can be true independents and their rights would be fully recognized by the promotion unlike the other ones in Mexico. Perrito also clarified the rumors that the PdM promotional offices were the actual property of EMLL President Paco Alonso saying that they aren’t Paco’s but he didn’t care that he rented them and that he was even going to let him use his talent but plans changed although he will still have those offices for a year. Perrito then sent a message to EMLL that they can try to run direct competition against him but they really need to worry about their fans leaving them to go the PdM shows for better entertainment and that if they want a war it can be arranged. The press conference closed in a heated way as Dr. Wagner Jr. & Cibernetico almost got in a brawl and Wagner decided to walk out.

The EMLL producers have said in the press that they would follow the PdM promotion and that they would be loading up cards in towns where PdM will be holding shows because Perro Aguayo Jr. betrayed them not the other way around and that this war was started by him first. This is interesting because EMLL has pretty much gone out of the way for years not to really acknowledge AAA but they are openly talking about PdM so 2009 should be an interesting year to see what comes out of this promotion and who they eventually align with either AAA or EMLL.

Cibernetico stated after the PdM press conference that working for PdM is very important for his career right now because he has only known how one promotion does their business and was considered normal to him but has become abnormal lately so he would like to go back to a more normal style promotion that actually takes care of their wrestlers. Ciber said that if the fans want to boo him he would understand but he wants them to know that if they support him he would give his usual 100%. Ciber was asked about his rivalry with AAA and said that he is still on good terms with the true powers that be in AAA not with the cancer that is trying to take control and that he wouldn’t rule out a return but only if they killed off the cancer. Ciber said though that he has a new rival in Dr. Wagner Jr. who loves to run his mouth so he would transfer his hate from the cancer over to him and would silence his critics. Ciber said that EMLL approached him with an offer to come to work for them but he said that he was never interested although he has lots of respect for their promotion and that he is part of a new movement now with PdM that supercedes any other traditional promotion.

Dr. Wagner Jr. stated after the PdM press conference that EMLL will suffer because of this new promotion and they are in a crisis because the fighters have won and EMLL has lost this battle. Wagner said that he doesn’t care that EMLL has vetoed him because he is a freelancer and that him not working for them is their loss not his so he doesn’t really care. Read the rest of this entry »

The Lucha Report for 10/11

Posted by invizweb on October 11, 2008

Thanks to Kris Zellner

NEWS

There were some possible big happenings last night at Arena Mexico with full details in the results section of the report.

Perro Aguayo Jr. stated today that he expects Dr. Mario Garcia Orozco to clear him medically to return to action before the year is over with December in sights. Perrito said that his rehab sessions have been going well and that being at the 75th Anniversary Show motivated him even more to return as soon as he could. Perrito then said that he plans on adding more members to Los Perros del Mal and wants to talk to Marco Corleone about possible membership saying that he has the personality to be a great addition to the group. Perrito said that many guys can put on Los Perros shirts but they are not really members until they fill his requirements.

Dos Caras Jr. cleared his situation involving EMLL & WWE up on Friday saying that he definitely plans on staying in EMLL for the rest of the year after meeting with EMLL personnel on Wednesday. Dos said that he isn’t being offered enough money by the WWE to make him jump on a whim so he said that he would wait them out and would continue to work for EMLL for at least the next 3 months. Dos said that after speaking to Paco Alonso directly, his problems with the promotion have subsided and both sides are happy with their current situation but he said that he would still take offers although he is sticking around with EMLL. Dos then denied that he would be appearing on WWE shows next week when they tour Mexico because there is no contract and won’t be until they meet his demands.

RESULTS

AAA 10/10 – Auditorio Municipal Jose Maria Arteaga de Queretaro (TV taping)

Konnan started AAA is WAR in the ring holding the urn with Antonio Pena’s ashes in it and demanded that AAA President Joaquin Roldan show up so he can make his demands for handing the urn over. Roldan came out with his security who would be quickly neutralized by Electroshock, Jack Evans, Teddy Hart, & Zorro so Roldan called out reinforcements which would bring out Alan y Chris Stone, Octagon, Super Fly, & The Psycho Circus (Killer Clown/Psycho Clown/Zombie Clown) who all attacked La Legion. During the schmozz, Alan grabbed the urn from Konnan but it turned out to be a dud and Konnan told Roldan that he had until after his match to accept his demands.

1. Fabi y Mari Apache beat Ayako Hamada & Cinthia Moreno
2. Alan y Chris Stone defeated The Hart Foundation 2.0 (Jack Evans & Teddy Hart)

D-MEX showed up on the stage during the match and introduced their newest member who would turn out to be Alex Koslov making the jump from EMLL. Jack & Teddy would be distracted by all of this and it cost them the match then after the match Waltman & Romero attacked Teddy but prevented Koslov from attacking Evans because Waltman wants him to be part of their group. Teddy would be taken out with a sledgehammer (HAHA sound familiar) and had to leave via stretcher.

3. The Psycho Circus (Killer Clown/Psycho Clown/Zombie Clown) beat Cuervo/Escoria/Espiritu

Chessman would come out and accidentally speared Espiritu prompting them to lose this and they were pissed because they were on their way to ending the 209 consecutive match winning streak.

4. Electroshock & Konnan defeated Octagon & Super Fly

La Legion got their revenge here by destroying Super Fly then after the match Konnan demanded that Roldan show up to meet his demands. Roldan showed up but had his own idea of how to get the urn back and told Konnan that he wanted a match where if Konnan wins he would keep the ashes along with running AAA but if Roldan wins the urn goes back to him and Konnan must retire. Konnan accepted these conditions without problems since retirement stips mean nothing these days. Supposedly there will be guys representing each guy here in the match and not them wrestling each other.

5. El Mesias beat Chessman by DQ.

Chessman roughed up Hijo del Tirantes for the DQ and after the match, Chessman tied up Mesias in a crucifix position before trying to set him on fire by pouring gasoline on him. Chessman was about to throw the match until The Black Family showed up and turned on Chessman after he cost them their match earlier. They destroyed Chessman and then tried to burn Mesias on their own but Cibernetico made the save and then after that the Psycho Circus showed up challenging Ciber to match in a possible alliance with Chessman.

6. Cibernetico defeated Zorro

Zorro & Konnan had problems during the match regarding who is the lead dog of La Legion so that played into his defeat. Chessman showed up again and demanded a rematch against Ciber then after the match he attacked him before Charly Manson’s music hit. Charly showed up on the stage and teased on who he would side with in the war between Chessman & Ciber but just walked away. Read the rest of this entry »

NEWS

Blue Panther stated yesterday that losing his mask to Villano V on Friday night at Arena Mexico was a big blow for his career but he vowed that this won’t slow him down because he feels great and he will be top level wrestler for many years to come. BP said that this is a beginning of a new cycle of his career in that he has gone 30 years wearing a mask and now it’s time to go 30 more without it. BP said that now the fans can see the emotion he brings to the ring through his facial expressions so there are blessings to be had after losing the mask. BP went on to say that he is a sportsman and has been throughout his career and that losing his mask to a member of the vaunted Villanos family is something that he can’t look back on with anger. BP said that he lost the match fair and square and that he wouldn’t have had it any other way if he lost because he lost with dignity and to an excellent wrestler that has the same values towards the sport that he does and would defend those values to the death. BP said though that the rivalry is far from over and that he would love to be the one that takes V-5’s mask and with the fans support he would achieve such success.

Villano V stated yesterday that he believed that he defeated the best pure fighter in lucha libre on Friday night at Arena Mexico as Blue Panther put up the fight of his life to try and keep his mask but on that night he wasn’t the better man. V-5 said that he holds great admiration and respect for BP as they have been through the battles for close to 30 years coming from the UWA family. V-5 said that he was ecstatic on one hand that he kept his mask but felt deep sadness on the other hand because a true legend in the sport lost his. V-5 then thanked his family for being such a great influence on his career and the fans for behing supportive of his efforts because without them the wrestlers are nothing.

Black Warrior said that it felt odd sitting in the stands with his kids Friday night at Arena Mexico because he normally works the anniversary shows but he thought it was a great show with the big surprise of former stablemate Blue Panther losing his mask. El Black said that it didn’t affect him personally because he isn’t close to him anymore but he believes that every masked wrestler should be prepared for the moment that they put up their mask because they could lose it just like he did 2 years ago to Mistico and BP on Friday. El Black said that BP deserves a lot of credit for holding onto his mask for as long as he has and actually thought that he would’ve kept it for a little longer but his time was up.

NEWS

Rey Bucanero stated today that he had no idea that his match with Sean Waltman for the CMLL Lt. Heavyweight Title that was scheduled for 9/19 at Arena Mexico would be cancelled and found out through the media because no one from the office called him. Rey said that he felt discomforted by the news because he was really looking forward to this spotlight match but it ended up being all for naught and now he said that he won’t even be in the building for the show.

Toscano stated today that even though he has formally joined Los Sexicools with Intocable & Juventud Guerrera, he hopes to return to EMLL soon to join his brothers in Los Guerreros del Atlantida. Toscano said that he hopes to back in the fold by January, which is what Zumbido said in an interview a few weeks ago because he wants to have a spot in EMLL that he can fall back on to help support his family because being an independent contractor doesn’t always guarantee work because they aren’t in the media forefront like the contracted guys. Toscano said that he is looking forward to teaming with Intocable & Juventud Guerrera and will have to go back to his tecnico roots because he has been a rudo for most of the last 7 years and prefers being a rudo actually over being a tecnico.

NEWS

Head Hunter I made his IWRG debut last night jumping Hijo del Anibal, Intocable, & Multifacetico in the main event along with Veneno cementing his entry into Veneno’s faction Los Creyentes.

Pierroth stated today that he would definitely have his retirement show in October at Arena Mexico but isn’t sure yet on which date it will be on. Pierroth said that he loves his daughter but the fact that he didn’t have a son hurt him because he wanted someone to continue his legacy so he has cast various people to be his sons and they have failed so he wants to find someone that can actually complete the task. Pierroth said that he enjoys being an announcer now and he thinks the fans will enjoy the expertise he brings to the table that he hopes will allow him to have that job for as long as he can.

Scorpio Jr. was released from Hospital Obregon in Mexico City yesterday after going through 10 days of hell due a gastric ulcer burst that caused him to have kidney failure which almost killed him. Dr. Mario Garcia Orozco announced yesterday though that he has given Scorp basically a clean bill of health and authorized him to go home to continue his recovery but he wants him to return next week so they can get an update on his condition and decide when is the best time to return to the ring because they want to make sure that he doesn’t have a relapse. Dr. Orozco thinks that a normal man might have died with this condition but with Scorpio Jr. being in such great shape that it gave him an advantage which kept him alive. Dr. Orozco said that Scorpio Jr. lost a lot of weight during this process and he wants him to wait before resuming to train to regain his body mass.

Shigeo Okumura told Reforma on Wednesday that the surgery he had on his right collarbone has been a debacle and would have to undergo another surgery yesterday morning to replace two of the seven screws in the plate they put in during the first surgery on June 28th. Okumura was injured four days earlier when Fabian el Gitano accidentally injured him with a misplaced knee in the shoulderblades and has been out of action for over 2 months. Okumura said that he started rehabilitation three weeks after the surgery but the injury wouldn’t heal right as his body wasn’t accepting the metal plate so he finally decided on Monday that he had enough and went to visit Dr. Mario Garcia Orozco who said that another surgery was needed. Okumura had an ultrasound along with an x-ray which told him about the screws and that Dr. Orozco would be remove a bone from his hip along with new screws to fix this problem. Okumura said that he feels terrible about not being able to compete but he would return as soon as possible so that the fans won’t forget him and wants their support through this tough process. Okumura said that this is the toughest fight of his life and he would come out victorious.

Lucha Report for 8/30

Posted by invizweb on August 30, 2008

Thanks to Kris Z.

NEWS

AULL has announced that there will be a special benefit show for Scorpio Jr. on 9/20 at Arena Lopez Mateos featuring their regulars and top independent stars like Black Terry, Intocable, Fuerza y Juventud Guerrera, Rambo, Super Calo, Toscano, and others.

Shocker and EMLL directors are on shaky terms again and he isn’t being booked right now due to philosophical differences as Shocker wants to reform the Guapos by bringing in Zumbido but that isn’t in the plans right now. Shocker is an independent contractor so he can pretty much work wherever he wants.

Solar I stated yesterday that he knows he is going to be facing some tough foes tomorrow in Tultitlan in the big 10 man steel cage match with the loser being either shaved or losing their mask but he is going into the match very confident. Solar said that he has put his mask up on many occasions and has survived every time so he thinks that this should be no different and he feels extra motivated this time after touring England last month. Solar said that the fans in London were great and they made him feel like a hero so it has revitalized him and he plans on taking someone’s mask tomorrow and not losing his.

Zumbido said yesterday that leaving EMLL four years ago was a big mistake and that he has been in talks with people in the offices about a return but wants to meet up with Paco Alonso face-to-face to seal the deal. Zumbido said that EMLL was his home and that he hopes that Paco will understand that he made a mistake and would take him back hopefully by January. Zumbido then said that if that doesn’t happen then he would still work independent and hopefully get some random bookings for EMLL to build back their confidence in him.

NEWS

Mistico was rushed to Hospital Obregon in Mexico City last night after the show where he underwent surgery and Dr. Jorge Alonso Orozco announced this morning Mistico’s prognosis.

EMLL also confirmed today that Hector Garza had surgery at Hospital Obregon on his right knee this weekend after being injured Friday night at Arena Mexico and he will be out of action for at least 3 weeks.

Luchas 2000 is reporting that Sean Waltman could be on his way to EMLL with Marco Corleone being his go-between with Paco Alonso. Waltman had decided to quit working AAA recently due to being upset with the backstage scene that interferes with his recovery from drug rehab. More on this as it comes.

Scorpio Jr. was also taken to Hospital Obregon on Friday night with two bleeding ulcers that he underwent surgery for on Saturday. There really isn’t a set prognosis for a return to the ring yet.

Juvy then introduced Lizzy Valentine as his new valet everywhere he works and she challenged Dark Angel to a match in the future. Juvy also brought out Intocable and announced that they are forming a new faction called the SexiCools with an undetermined member to join them. Fuerza Guerrera was also there and said that he would support his son in whatever he did because he wants him to be successful and then said that the days of them working against each other in a match are over.

Alfonso Dantes, father of Apolo Dantes, inventor of the Tiger Suplex y Leyenda de Lucha Libre, passes away at the age of 65

Posted by invizweb on July 30, 2008

Thanks to Kris Z.

Alfonso “El Tanque” Dantes died today at his home in Mananzillo at the age of 65 but a cause of death hasn’t been reported yet.

Dantes started wrestling at 17-years-old in 1960 in Morelia using the name of Edmundo Dantes after going through rigorous training from his maestro Diablo Velasco. Alfonso came from great stock as his father Al Amezcua (Golden Terror) was a great wrestler and his brother Vick Amezcua would go on to fame as Septiembre Negro. Alfonso’s sons Apolo & Cesar would go on to become stars as well and he would often team with them before he retired.

Alfonso’s greatest claim to fame would probably be that he created the Toque Tapatio otherwise known as the Tiger Suplex that Satoru Sayama would perfect as Tiger Mask. Alfonso took the hair of many wrestlers with the best known being El Faraon & El Halcon who was his main rival throughout their careers. Alfonso also held many titles as he was an Occidental Middleweight champion, which started his legendary run in his home of Guadalajara, 3-time Mexican National Lt. Heavyweight champion, 5-time NWA World Lt. Heavyweight champion (which was considered “his title”), and a 2-time Mexican National Heavyweight champion.

Alfonso also became a big name working for Mike LeBell in Los Angeles in the 60’s and 70’s where he would he be a co-holder of the Americas Tag Titles with partners such as Francisco Flores, El Medico, & Mil Mascaras. Dantes would also become a charter member of the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame in 1996.

Alfonso’s body is expected to be taken to his hometown of Guadalajara tomorrow for the funeral ceremony. Descanse en Paz, El Tanque.
