CHIKARA: All 12 teams confirmed for November’s Tag World Grand Prix!

In just about a month, the CHIKARA gang is heading across the Atlantic to present the Tag World Grand Prix 2008 in conjunction with our pals at Westside Xtreme Wrestling. We’ve locked in 12 great tag teams from around the world – all together, the United States, Japan, England, Scotland, Canada, Egypt, Poland, Holland and Germany will be represented when we hit Oberhausen in November! In addition to which, some of the world’s finest mat men will be on hand in non-tourney action – we’re talking about the likes of Johnny Saint, Mike Quackenbush and Claudio Castagnoli!

Big Japan Wrestling invades Easton, PA this Saturday, October 18th!

Back in July, CHIKARA issued a challenge to a dozen promotions from around the world – and Big Japan Wrestling answered the call! On October 18th and 19th, both Easton and Philadelphia will get a taste of BJW action as the company’s stars clash with CHIKARA’s finest in a 2-day event unlike anything we’ve ever staged before!

Together, CHIKARA and Big Japan Wrestling will present the Global Gauntlet, which starts in Easton with a “Best of 5″ series of singles matches. All in all, 8 matches will make up the card this Saturday in Easton, which features:

These matches will be part of the “Best of 5 Series:”

Ryuji Ito vs. Mike Quackenbush

Katsumasa Inoue vs. Hallowicked

Yuji Okabayashi vs. Ultimo Breakfast

Jaki Numazawa vs. UltraMantis Black

CHIKARA’s Global Gauntlet: Ryuji Ito vs. Quackenbush in Easton!

Back in July, CHIKARA issued a challenge to a dozen promotions from around the world – and Big Japan Wrestling answered the call! On October 18th and 19th, both Easton and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will get a taste of BJW action as the company’s stars clash with CHIKARA’s finest in a 2-day event unlike anything we’ve ever staged before! Today, we are thrilled to announce that the team captain for Big Japan Wrestling – none other than Ryuji Ito himself has chosen CHIKARA’s team captain, “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush to face him in Easton!

Together, CHIKARA and Big Japan Wrestling will present the Global Gauntlet, which starts in Easton with a “Best of 5″ series of singles matches. This first competition will see 5 of the 7 members of Team Big Japan face off, one-on-one, with 5 members of the CHIKARA roster. To level the playing field between the two nights, we’re making these provisions regarding the action on Night 1:

-The “Best of 5 series” will be officiated by a referee from CHIKARA.

-The BJW wrestlers will handpick their opponents for the 5 matches.

Then, on Night 2 (in Philly), we’ll offer up a giant 7 vs. 7 winner-stays-on gauntlet match, pitting all the members of Team BJW against a team put together by CHIKARA. The following provisions will govern this match:

-The Gauntlet match will be officiated by a referee from BJW.

-The BJW team will determine the order of entry into the match first, CHIKARA will then determine the order of entry for their participants, ordered by the respective team captains (Ito & Quackenbush).

CHIKARA: Cleveland, Ohio, here we come!

Our September 21st Ohio debut is less than a month away, and tickets are moving fast already! A monumental card will rock the CHIKARA calendar in just over a week! We’re offering up a giant, star-studded card, on Sunday afternoon, July 13th, at our homebase of the New Alhambra in Philadelphia. This one will be a card on par with our very finest stand-alone events, and every loyal member of the CHIKARMY will want to be on hand when “Tragedy and Triumph” plays in South Philly!

As if the 9 matches we have planned aren’t enough, we’ve got a little something to sweeten the deal for ya. Every paying fan that attends “Tragedy and Triumph” can hang out after the event and watch TNA’s “Victory Road” program on the big screen with us – at no extra charge! That’s a boatload of wrestling at a great price, kids!

Catastrophes and Miracles

It was a day (and a night) of catastrophes and miracles for Inter-Species Wrestling and its owner Mike Rotch. The biggest catastrophe being that the ring truck broke down and the ring didn’t show up to Foufounes Electriques until after Hot Summer RUB-DOWN was scheduled to end. The biggest miracle? That the show happened at all.

The catastrophes started with a tire blowing out on the ring truck. Tire no sooner fixed than the truck’s starter blew. The replacement truck never showed up and the ring truck in fits and starts took half a day to complete a one-hour trip.

The owner of Foufounes Electriques was relatively pleased to have over a hundred wrestling fans drinking for close to three hours patiently waiting in the downstairs bar for the ring to show up, somewhat less so when a brawl broke out between the BADD Brothers and El Hijo del BAMBOO! He finally lost his patience when no sooner had the BADD/BAMBOO! Bar Brawl been broken up, than a street fight between Stinky the Homeless Guy and Gore the Zombie Master broke out.

With Giant Tiger threatening to get naked to the roars of the wrestling fans, the owner of Foufs told Rotchy that he would have to either open the upstairs stage and put on the show by 10pm and put on the show or bite the bullet and cancel the show. Rotchy opened the doors, crossed his fingers, knocked on wood… and the ring truck finally wheezed up to the back door five minutes later.

With every member of the crew relaying ring parts up the stairs and the crowd cheering every strut and beam, the ring was put together in under a half-hour and the show started at 10:30 p.m. about when we were expecting to end the show…

Once the catastrophes ended, the miracles began…

Cauliflower Alley Club Director Les Thatcher joins the show to talk about his illustrious career the in the Professional Wrestling. What and when is the Cauliflower Alley Club Reunion? Who was his trainer Tony Santos? Where is his Wrestling Weekly co-host Doc Young? Plus discussion of Jr Heavyweight wrestling, Michael Hayes’ suspension, and the Benoit Case one year later, amongst other subjects to discuss.

The Cauliflower Alley Club is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting retired and active participants of combat sports since 1965. Each year they hold a Reunion Banquet to commemorate the careers of individuals in the Pro wrestling business who have excelled to the pinnacle of the craft. It also serves to reconnect veterans and for the younger generation of Wrestlers to network and learn from their predecessors. It is opened to the public and it benefits the efforts of the Club pending prior registration. This year it will be held at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Los Vegas, Nevada.
