And here we are looking for a new Champion that will be deified in the blaze of combat.
And how did we get here. Last time on NBC Online:
1. Alena Kartashova (Russia) def Lise Golliot Legrand (France)
2. Kaori Icho (Japan) def Martine Dugrenier (Canada)
The Pool 1 contestants are people Kartashove beat and the Pool 2 people Icho beat.
Pool 1. Yelena Shalygina (Kazakhstan) def Elina Vaseva (Bulgaria)
Pool 2. Randi Miler (USA) def Olesya Zamula (Azerbaijan)
-63kg Bronze Match A: Yelena Shalygina (Kazakhstan) vs Lise Golliot Legrand (France)
Ashida is the referee for this match. Yelena begins with a huge Double Leg following up by taking Legrand’s back. I wonder does having a last name liken to Legrand put extra pressure on you. After another takedown at will, Yelena has 5 to end the round wih Lise with nada. Lise now has a bloody lip to go along with the bruised eye she started the match with. Lise gets Yelena over when the match is restarted with a Gutwrench but its already too late.
Bronze Medalist: Yelena Shalygina
-63kg Bronze Match B: Randi Miller (USA) vs Martine Dugrenier (Canada)
Huran Sharifov is the ref for the match beween African American Miller and I am assuming French Canadian Dugrenier who was a Silver medalist in another weight class. Randi (not Randy as in Orton) scores a point in the first to close it. Randi gets another in Fall 2 but then gets shot on by Dugrenier for 1. Martine gets another after getting Randi’s back. And so Dugrenier takes the fall. Now period 3. Miller steps OOB but does not lose a point. Martine scores with a Standing Switch getting Randi’s back. The nationalcentric commentator is shamelessly throwing itself at Randi’s feet. Randi ends the fall with a Double. And NBC gushes.
Bronze Medalist: Randi Miller
-63kg Finals: Alena Kartashova (Russia) vs Kaori Icho (Japan)
And the commentator from NBC is still talking about Miller during this match. I would congratulate Miller also but focus on the match at hand.
Despite the long and vicious night, Kartashova has not lost her smile yet whereas Icho is stoic as Kawada whenever he is not near Yinling. Icho slips out of an attempt and slaps Alena upside the head. And that was most of the match. 0-0 going into the 2nd. Oh they have to clinch. I think Kartashova got a Red Ball (~!) drawn to her favor. Unfortunately, Kaori defended her High Crotch and got a Crotch Lift of her own to score 1 instead. The girls are more aggressive this round . Alena tries to use the sumo rule and force Icho OOB but Icho turns. Icho gets the clinch point but getting a Single Leg and still Champion, Kaori Icho. And the crowd explodes with approval. She is crying in joy now. I think the weird rubber band holding her hair backbut creating artificial bangs actually looks good on her now. Sorry for being unprofessional but it makes her look “cute.” And children in the rafters either agree with me or they are happy she took gold home to the island of the Yamato clan.
2008 Beijing Olympics Gold Medal Champion: Kaori Icho
Gold: Kaori Icho (Japan)
Silver: Alena Kartashova (Russia)
Bronze: Randi Miller (USA) and Yelena Shalygina (Kazakhstan)
