Gouken finally unleashed

It’s been a long time coming, but the infamous Gouken, better known as Sheng Long, has finally made his debut in Street Fighter 4. Now we’ve got the video of the venerable Shotokan master in action.

Looks like Gouken has multi-directional hadoukens, a killer shoyruken combo and a host of other moves that should bring pain to his opponents. Nothing we wouldn’t expect from the master of Ken and Ryu. The guy’s younger brother is Akuma, one of the strongest Street Fighter characters ever, after all.

When you’re done watching Abel and Gouken go at it, be sure to hit the jump and watch the trailer for the forthcoming anime starring Chun-Li.

Read more.  Author’s commentary:  Gouken doesn’t seem so tough.  His techniques are fancy but he appears slow.  Hell seems to be the same speed as Abel, the new grappler, and grapplers are typically not fast in 2D fighting games.

10 Questions with Neil Gaiman

Posted by invizweb on September 22, 2008

from Goodreads

Neil Gaiman’s imaginary worlds are indisputably dark, often chillingly macabre, and always fun to visit. His characters are spooky but charming, like Death, the beguiling goth girl of the groundbreaking comic series The Sandman; the Other Mother, the soul-snatching matriarch of the young adult bestseller Coraline; and Aziraphale and Crowley, the angel and demon frenemies of the popular satire Good Omens. Gaiman chatted with Goodreads about his latest spine-tingling book, The Graveyard Book, his sources of inspiration, the Hollywood rumor mill, and what he has on his Goodreads currently-reading shelf.

King of Fighters XII redebuts at the Tokyo Amusement Machine Show (Sep 18, 2008)

Posted by invizweb on September 22, 2008

By Hirohiko Niizumi, GameSpot

SNK’s long-overdue revamp of flagship brawler set to arrive in Japanese arcades in April of 2009; producer talks about the troubles of next-generation 2D development…

Kukino confirmed that there will be a total of 20 characters in KOFXII, 11 of which are playable in the AM Show build: Kyo, Terry, Ryo, Ash, Robert, Kim, Ralf, Shen-wu, Benimaru, Leona, and Athena. KOFXII is currently 60 percent complete in development, and there will be beta tests before the game’s proper release.

“We are aiming for the ultimate 2D fighting game and ultimate 2D pixel graphics,” Kukino said in closing. “I’ve been working in this industry since the pixel-art days, so I know the importance of a single pixel. A single pixel can vitally change the expression on a [character’s] face. We’ve taken that skill to an ultimate level.”

Lucha Report for 9/21

Posted by invizweb on September 22, 2008

Thanks to Kris Zellner

Blue Panther stated yesterday that losing his mask to Villano V on Friday night at Arena Mexico was a big blow for his career but he vowed that this won’t slow him down because he feels great and he will be top level wrestler for many years to come. BP said that this is a beginning of a new cycle of his career in that he has gone 30 years wearing a mask and now it’s time to go 30 more without it. BP said that now the fans can see the emotion he brings to the ring through his facial expressions so there are blessings to be had after losing the mask. BP went on to say that he is a sportsman and has been throughout his career and that losing his mask to a member of the vaunted Villanos family is something that he can’t look back on with anger. BP said that he lost the match fair and square and that he wouldn’t have had it any other way if he lost because he lost with dignity and to an excellent wrestler that has the same values towards the sport that he does and would defend those values to the death. BP said though that the rivalry is far from over and that he would love to be the one that takes V-5’s mask and with the fans support he would achieve such success.

Villano V stated yesterday that he believed that he defeated the best pure fighter in lucha libre on Friday night at Arena Mexico as Blue Panther put up the fight of his life to try and keep his mask but on that night he wasn’t the better man. V-5 said that he holds great admiration and respect for BP as they have been through the battles for close to 30 years coming from the UWA family. V-5 said that he was ecstatic on one hand that he kept his mask but felt deep sadness on the other hand because a true legend in the sport lost his. V-5 then thanked his family for being such a great influence on his career and the fans for behing supportive of his efforts because without them the wrestlers are nothing.

Black Warrior said that it felt odd sitting in the stands with his kids Friday night at Arena Mexico because he normally works the anniversary shows but he thought it was a great show with the big surprise of former stablemate Blue Panther losing his mask. El Black said that it didn’t affect him personally because he isn’t close to him anymore but he believes that every masked wrestler should be prepared for the moment that they put up their mask because they could lose it just like he did 2 years ago to Mistico and BP on Friday. El Black said that BP deserves a lot of credit for holding onto his mask for as long as he has and actually thought that he would’ve kept it for a little longer but his time was up.

Right Where You Are Sitting Now Episode 14 – Conspiracy 101 up now, plus new reviews section live!

Posted by invizweb on September 18, 2008

WE ARE BACK! After some hefty technical problems, a brief spell of sickness and some general booking of awesome new guests…and I mean awesome, we finally return!

This week me and our returning guest/co-host Raymond Wiley chat about The culture of Conspiracy belief! We decided the subject was so large that we would wax about some of our own experiences, some key theories and funny ones to boot!

There is no music this week, mainly because we have been rushing around to much to find anything in time.

Expect a total change of format in the coming weeks! We have sorted all the techy glitches and now we are adding a new audio version of the Weird Weekly News into the show. We’ve done a dummy run with Claire and it sounds cool, so that will start as of episode 15 next week!

Also, keep your eyes peeled to this site for a really cool announcement of a new show featuring some of Sitting Now’s staff!

CHIKARA’s Global Gauntlet: Ryuji Ito vs. Quackenbush in Easton!

Posted by invizweb on September 15, 2008

Back in July, CHIKARA issued a challenge to a dozen promotions from around the world – and Big Japan Wrestling answered the call! On October 18th and 19th, both Easton and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania will get a taste of BJW action as the company’s stars clash with CHIKARA’s finest in a 2-day event unlike anything we’ve ever staged before! Today, we are thrilled to announce that the team captain for Big Japan Wrestling – none other than Ryuji Ito himself has chosen CHIKARA’s team captain, “Lightning” Mike Quackenbush to face him in Easton!

Together, CHIKARA and Big Japan Wrestling will present the Global Gauntlet, which starts in Easton with a “Best of 5” series of singles matches. This first competition will see 5 of the 7 members of Team Big Japan face off, one-on-one, with 5 members of the CHIKARA roster. To level the playing field between the two nights, we’re making these provisions regarding the action on Night 1:
-The “Best of 5 series” will be officiated by a referee from CHIKARA.
-The BJW wrestlers will handpick their opponents for the 5 matches.
Then, on Night 2 (in Philly), we’ll offer up a giant 7 vs. 7 winner-stays-on gauntlet match, pitting all the members of Team BJW against a team put together by CHIKARA. The following provisions will govern this match:
-The Gauntlet match will be officiated by a referee from BJW.
-The BJW team will determine the order of entry into the match first, CHIKARA will then determine the order of entry for their participants, ordered by the respective team captains (Ito & Quackenbush). Read the rest of this entry »

Upstate NY (Orleans County) vs the Church of the SubGenius Next Act

Posted by invizweb on September 14, 2008

Dear Friends,

Thank you so much for all your support over what has turned into years since this case began in December 2005. I’m sorry to have to intrude in your inbox again, but my ex is starting the custody case up again. This time, though, it might not go so horribly awry. Let me start at the beginning:

It has been a little over a year since August 2007, when I was finally allowed to return to Georgia with my son. Judge Punch reinstated himself on the case and removed custody from my ex after he was arrested for felony DUI. Although we were allowed to return home last August, it took us until last December to put our home back together more or less as it was, just in time to welcome home our newest family member,Valentine Bevilacqua! He was born a few weeks before Christmas and is nine months old now and full of rambunction. I usually spend my days stopping him from taking things apart and putting them in his mouth, as well as helping Kohl with his homework, and working at my job as a freelance corporate transcriptionist, and finding time once in a while to blog.

I have a pretty busy schedule, as you can imagine, so I was glad when in February we finally received a finalized Order from Judge Punch which, for the first time in these eleven years of strife, did not explicitly retain jurisdiction over future matters with Orleans County. This means that I have a shot at getting the jurisdiction of future cases changed to Georgia, the “home state” of the child in question. This is what normally happens when parents live in different states, but for eleven years Judge Punch chose to exercise his legal prerogative to keep the case in his jurisdiction. I won’t speculate on why, but last August he changed his mind and decided he would no longer keep the case in Orleans County.

Changing the jurisdiction of the case to Georgia would mean that my ex could no longer hold the threat of filing frivolous petitions over my head, as he has all these years. He would have to be serious enough about the matter to travel to Georgia to file. Changing jurisdiction would mean that any time there is a dispute, I wouldn’t have to give up my entire life, leave my husband and home, and go to a remote county in Upstate New York and stay until the matter ends, even if the case goes on for years. Also, any time the court had a question about Kohl’s schooling, home life, social life, health care, etc, all the evidence [doctors, teachers, friends, coaches] would be right there at hand. Basically, this jurisdictional change would be a huge weight lifted off our family.

Before jurisdiction could be changed, however, someone had to file in the old jurisdiction and then someone would have to put up a jurisdictional challenge at that time. You can’t just switch it automatically, I tried. Predictably, I didn’t have to wait long for my ex to file a new petition in Orleans County. Just six months from the final filing of the order, on August 19, 2008 I received a summons to appear on September 5, back in Orleans County to answer yet another handwritten petition from my ex, alleging violations of the order. Since February, Judge Punch has retired for health reasons, and the case is now going before Judge Michael Griffiths, who has no knowledge of the long and painful history of the case and may or may not agree with Punch’s decision to let it go to Georgia.

Although this new petition didn’t explicitly mention the SubGenius, neither did the original petition in December 2005. Anything can happen in Orleans County, so I was very frightened at opening this up again after only six months of respite. I passed the summons on to Mr. Mattingly, the “weapons grade lawyer” who got us this far, but he replied that he couldn’t represent me anymore, since, although I make payments to him when I can, I still owe him $32,000 from the case that ended in February.

When I first found that out, I seriously panicked. I only had about two weeks to find a new lawyer and come up with a retainer fee! I knew I couldn’t use a court-appointed lawyer, because the last time I did that, back in 1999, my appointed lawyer agreed not to tell me about a hearing they held without my presence, because Judge Punch didn’t want me to know he had switched custody. He felt I was a flight risk and it would be better to let me ignorantly come to New York for a Christmas visit, and then have sheriff’s deputies show up to collect my then-3-year-old son. So, I need a lawyer from the big city of Rochester, or Buffalo, not another one from Orleans County.

After a lot of exhaustive internet and phone research, I was able to secure some concessions from the court, such as a postponement to September 26, 2008, to give me more time to find a lawyer, and permission to testify by telephone rather than in person. Further, I was able to locate a lawyer who is a civil rights crusader, Mr. R. Brian Goewey, [GO-wei], who is not only available on the 26th, but is also willing to represent such a degenerate artist as myself, and who is willing to do it for half of what every other lawyer has quoted me! Truly the Luck Plane tilted my way when I found him.

We’ve made it so far from the days when I lived in a 10 by 12 box apartment crying myself to sleep every night, never knowing how my son was, never knowing if I would ever get him back. We’re so close to being free from the threat of being compelled to return to Orleans County, which has hung over our heads since my son was a baby. All we need is $2,500 to get started, with a full retainer of $5,000. Of course, if things go badly, it could run into another $80-$100,000, but I’m focusing my slack waves on the thought that this new Judge Griffiths is going to be reasonable and let us go. If everyone who receives this email donates just $10, it would easily cover Mr. Goewey’s fees. I realize this is the worst possible time to ask for money again, with gas prices and food prices and unemployment the way they are, but I can’t raise more than about $1,500 on my own, not by September 26 anyway. I’m forced to once again appeal to you, who’ve helped our family so much in the past, for one more push to finally get free.

Thank you so very much for everything you’ve already done. I apologize for asking for more; I know I already owe you a debt of gratitude that I could never repay. When my son was taken from me, the pain was unbearable, too much to take, and it went on and on, seemingly forever. My mind will always carry those scars, and if it had gone on much longer I’m sure it would have broken me. How can I thank you for helping save me from that? Words can never express the emotions in my heart when I think of how friends and strangers from all over the world came together to help my family, so please just know that you helped someone out of a living hell, and it mattered and made a difference, and someone’s life is so much better now, because of your compassion.

Thank you!!! May the Luck Plane always tilt your way.
-Rachel Bevilacqua

Nina Hartley’s Guide to Pregnant Sex

Posted by invizweb on September 12, 2008

Her latest movie offers a sex-positive approach to that oft-neglected subject

By Tristan Taormino for the Village Voice.

I flew to Minneapolis last month to celebrate the fifth anniversary of feminist-women-owned sex shop the Smitten Kitten ( Co-founder and owner Jennifer, with her partner Davis, just had a baby, who was then two and half weeks old. Usually they’re up to their eyeballs in dildo harnesses and butt plugs, but this trip, these two sex activists were all about cloth diapers and breast-feeding. Their baby was one of the most chilled-out infants I’ve ever met—he even slept as we partied at a local lesbian bar! The proud parents were so funny: They asked Penny Flame and Adrianna Nicole—stars of my porn reality series Chemistry and special guests at the store’s big anniversary party—to pose for some pictures with their son for the baby book! I mean, I’m sure there’s a page for “My First Photo With Porn Stars,” right? Several people I know have recently gotten pregnant, and as they pore through resources on every aspect of being knocked up, there’s one topic that’s still challenging to find clear, sex-positive information about: sex.

It makes me think of one of the first essays I read on the subject, in a book by Susie Bright (—she talks frankly and specifically about some of the sexual changes she experienced while she was pregnant in the ’80s. For one thing, she found she couldn’t masturbate the same way: “I was stunned and a little panicky. My engorged clitoris was different under my fingers; too sensitive to touch my usual way, and what other way was there?” She theorizes that one of the reasons some couples stop having sex during a pregnancy is that they’re unprepared for some of the radical changes: “What happens is that your normal sexual patterns don’t work anymore. Unless you and your lover make the transition to new ways of getting excited and reaching orgasm, you are going to be very depressed about sex and start avoiding it altogether.” But who prepares you to cope with such a dramatic shift in your sex life? It’s not usually part of the typical birthing class, your mom’s advice, or the girl talk at a baby shower.

Finally, two of the most capable names in sex ed have created a resource unlike any other. Nina Hartley ( and Ernest Greene, her husband and the director of her video series for Adam & Eve, have produced Nina Hartley’s Guide to Great Sex During Pregnancy. As porn-industry veterans, this duo knows well how pregnant women are portrayed in the industry: They’re fetishized as Bare-Assed and Pregnant and Maternity Nymphos. (Notably, they’re also often featured alongside big girls and transwomen in series like Fuck a Freak and Perversions). Pregger porn has become a small but viable niche, but no one has ever represented pregnant women in a sensual and thoughtful way, or treated pregnant sex as anything other than a kinky turn-on. No one has made a video that addresses the many issues of pregnant sex. For the mom-to-be, there are changes to her body, hormone levels, and libido. Some women feel extremely sexy when they’re pregnant, while others struggle with their body image. Everything is in flux, from their sexual desires and fantasies to how responsive their bodies are and what positions are comfortable. Their partners can feel neglected, confused about how to interact with their partners sexually, or ambivalent about sex during the pregnancy.
