During a routine beaver tagging in Maine, a Fishing and Games officer is dismembered by what appears to be a large reptile in the lake.  This leads to a team consisting of a museum paleontologist, another wildlife officer, the local sherrif who witnessed the mauling, and a rich eccentric, to track down the mystery animal.   Lake Placid was not a great movie, not even a decent one.  Even though Betty White and Mariska Hargitay had some funny lines, the star power did not add much to the film’s watchability.  I didn’t find this thrillomedy film hilarious or terrifying.  The featured creature in this flick wasn’t anything special either.
