A pioneer of the slasher genre, Cunningham’s Friday the 13th after all this time still offers the genuine suspense of that first time I saw it.  The effects and lighting for the stormy night which most of the film takes place creates a tense atmosphere.  The killings were bloody with the aftermath being shown but not as tortuously gory as what you see in today’s horror films.   Don’t expect Shakespeare as the dialogue was the standard for the time.  But, the closing moments of the film will be etched in your mind as it has always mine.   This is a definite rewatch.
