The Thing is one of horror master John Carpenter’s great works.    It is a movie with a premise of tension magnified by the set and lighting recreating the feel of a barren Antarctica.  That same lighting though, makes it hard to see when some of the action.  The cast also felt too large at times, with me trying to figure out who’s who at certain points.  With that said, this was in fact, a fine movie with great music and awesome acting by Jack Russel and Keith David.  Also, Stan Winston and Rob Bottin’s special effects work creating the elaborate titular Thing was nothing less of remarkable.
